The government will begin demolishing abandoned and derelict properties<\/a> next week after owners failed to respond to amenity orders, Minister for Social and Urban Transformation Rawdon Turner<\/a><\/strong> said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turner said amenity audits<\/a> were issued to property owners in Villa, Point and the Ottos areas<\/a>, but some orders expired without any response, triggering direct government action.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSome amenity audits were issued to properties in the city: Villa, Point and the Ottos community areas,\u201d Turner said. \u201cAnd the time has just about expired.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

So what people can look forward to seeing now is the actual process of demolition and cleaning up of some of these vacant lots<\/a> in and around the city.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the work will involve demolishing derelict structures and clearing vacant lots, with heavy equipment deployed as early as next week.<\/p>

\u201cAs of next week, you\u2019ll see excavators, 20-ton trucks moving into place to start the process of beautifying these lots,\u201d Turner said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The minister said the initiative is part of a broader effort to improve urban spaces and address long-standing eyesores across the city. He added that plans are also in place to fence the cleared properties and involve students from various schools in beautifying the areas with murals.<\/p>
