The chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission<\/a> has paid tribute to the late Sir Gerald Watt<\/a>, describing his contribution to the country\u2019s democratic development as enduring and deeply significant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a New Year\u2019s Day message, Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission<\/strong> Chairman His Excellency Ambassador Arthur G.B. Thomas said the Commission reflected not only on the year ahead, but also on those whose work helped shape Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s democratic institutions.<\/a><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Commission pays special homage to the late Sir Gerald Watt<\/a>, whose unwavering commitment to democratic consolidation, constitutionalism, and public service stands as an enduring example,\u201d Thomas said.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

He said Sir Gerald\u2019s death was \u201cdeeply felt<\/a>\u201d and noted that his role in strengthening democratic institutions remains significant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHis contribution to the strengthening of our democratic institutions cannot be diminished,\u201d Thomas said.<\/p>

The tribute was included as part of a broader reflection on democracy as a continuing process, with the Electoral Commission reaffirming its responsibility to preserve public trust and institutional integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thomas said the Commission remains committed to working with citizens \u201cin a spirit of openness, consultation, and shared responsibility\u201d as it seeks to ensure democratic institutions remain credible and responsive in the years ahead.<\/p>
