Agriculture Ministry Launches \u2018Plant2Plate\u2019 Initiative With Backyard Gardening Competition<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agriculture Minister Anthony Smith Jr.<\/a> says the government has launched the Plant2Plate Antigua and Barbuda Initiative<\/a><\/em>, anchored by a renewed Backyard Gardening Competition <\/a>aimed at strengthening local food production and national food security.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to launch the \u2018Plant2Plate Antigua and Barbuda Initiative\u2019 <\/a>with our beloved Backyard Gardening Competition,\u201d Smith said in a public statement.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The initiative encourages households to grow their own food, with this year\u2019s competition built around the theme, \u201cHomegrown today, food secure tomorrow.\u201d<\/em> Smith said the theme underscores the role that home gardening can play in improving food security across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEvery seed sown contributes to food security,\u201d he said.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

As part of the programme, the Ministry is also introducing a new \u201cCook What You Grow\u201d Culinary Showcase<\/em>, which will highlight dishes prepared using produce grown in participants\u2019 backyard gardens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Smith urged residents to take part in both components of the initiative, calling on them to \u201cjoin the competition and showcase your gardening skills.\u201d<\/p>
