Three members of the main opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) and a former government have called on the electorate on the eastern Caribbean island, to vote the Dr. Ralph Gonsalves led government out of office when the next general election is held.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Speaking at a town hall meeting held here on Saturday, the legislators for West Kingstown, South Leeward and North Leeward, Daniel Cummings, Nigel \u201cNature\u201d Stephenson and Roland \u201cPatel\u201d Matthews, respectively, and former Grenadines representative Glenford Stewart, told the audience: \u201cDon\u2019t get vex (angry), vote.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGo out and vote, and get them out of office,\u201d said former Communications and Works Minister Stewart, a civil engineer by profession, in leading the charge. \u201cWe couldn\u2019t find an unbiased judge to hear our petitions. You vex, tell your relatives to vote.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/div>\n

\u201cYou happy that the Argyle International Airport is opened, and you still vex,\u201d he added at the town hall meeting, hosted by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Progressive Organization of New York (SPOONY), the New York arm of the NDP, which was streamed live on the Internet and broadcast live on local radio.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cYou have to be vexed, because they (the government) can\u2019t give you an account (of the airport\u2019s finances,\u201d Stewart continued.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He accused the Gonsalves\u2019s government of \u201cdraining\u201d the accounts of the former National Commercial Bank and is \u201cwaiting for NIS (National Insurance Services) to bust.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

He said that the Vincentian government should not be engaged in the construction of hotels in the country, stating that the private sector is doing so in other Caribbean islands.<\/p>\n

In addition, Stewart said the government has failed to deliver on its election promise, 18 years ago, for construction of a cross country road and a national stadium on mainland St. Vincent, and is now contemplating building a tunnel from Arnos Vale to Cane Garden to ease congestion to capital Kingstown.<\/p>

\u201cThose engineers coming from Canada already consulting me,\u201d he disclosed. \u201cIt\u2019s a nonsense venture. They can\u2019t event fix pot holes, and you say you\u2019re going to build tunnel.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Stewart said the administration has also failed to deliver on construction of a jetty in the southern Grenadine island of Canouan and is yet to repair damage done by a rain storm 5 \u00bd years ago to the jetty at the port in Chateaubelair, a town on the north western shore of the mainland.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, he said the populace is burdened with increased taxes annually.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Stephenson said \u201cSt. Vincent and the Grenadines is characterized by neglect.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a time for change in St. Vincent and the Grenadines,\u201d said the Shadow Minister for Youth, Sports, Community Development, Culture and Local Government. \u201cSt. Vincent and the Grenadines, as you know it, has changed for the worst.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe government again has been playing sport with sports,\u201d he added, lamenting the government\u2019s election promise to construct a national stadium.<\/p>\n

Cummings said it was \u201cvery painful when you see the level of theft in the (last) elections in St. Vincent and the Grenadines,\u201d stating that the electorate was deeply concerned that their votes would be counted in the next general elections.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Matthews said the team\u2019s mission to New York was to inform the audience that \u201cthings in St. Vincent and the Grenadines are not as rosy (as they seem).<\/p>\n

\u201cToo many wrong things are going on,\u201d said the Shadow Minister of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries. \u201cMake St. Vincent and the Grenadines better. The NDP stands with you to make St. Vincent and the Grenadines better.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe realize that spite, vindictiveness, victimization will not move our country forward,\u201d he added. \u201cWe should be the ones to calm the arguments.\u201d<\/p>\n

Matthews said, while farmers have been the \u201cbedrock\u201d in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, they \u201chave not been doing well.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He said the agricultural\u00a0sector\u2019s contribution to\u00a0 the gross domestic product (GDP) has\u00a0fallen\u00a0from\u00a0 19 percent to\u00a0 6 percent, claiming that, since the government has been in office, it has failed to conduct a census in agriculture.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe NDP, first thing, will conduct an agricultural census to assess the state of agriculture in St. Vincent and the Grenadines,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe in the New Democratic Party have been tried and tested,\u201d Matthews added. \u201cWe want your help to help us shine through.\u201d<\/p>\n
