Antigua and Barbuda Expands Visa Access as Government Targets Easier Travel<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Antigua and Barbuda<\/a> is widening its international travel access after signing a series of visa agreements<\/a> with countries across Africa and the Middle East, the government has said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Foreign Affairs Minister EP Chet Greene<\/strong>, speaking during the 2026 Budget Debate, told Parliament that new visa arrangements have been concluded with the United Arab Emirates<\/strong>, Ghana<\/strong>, Kenya<\/strong>, Rwanda<\/strong> and Benin<\/strong><\/a>, forming part of what he described as a deliberate push to improve mobility for Antiguans and Barbudans<\/a>.<\/p>

The agreements, Greene said, are intended to make it easier for citizens to travel abroad while deepening diplomatic and economic links <\/a>with key international partners.<\/p>

Although the minister did not outline the specific terms of each agreement, he framed them as practical outcomes of foreign policy \u2014 measures designed to move beyond symbolism and deliver real benefits, particularly in trade, investment and people-to-people connections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greene also pointed to Japan<\/strong> as part of Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s wider diplomatic engagement, noting that arrangements with Tokyo remain active even though no new visa agreement was announced during the debate. <\/p>

He included Japan among countries with which the government continues to strengthen long-standing ties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visa agreements come amid a broader reconfiguration of Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s foreign service, which Greene used his budget presentation to detail. <\/p>

That included new diplomatic appointments, changes to overseas missions and efforts to expand the country\u2019s international footprint.<\/p>

Government officials have increasingly framed visa access as a key indicator of diplomatic reach, particularly for small island states where global mobility can directly affect trade opportunities, education access and tourism development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greene said the latest agreements reflect the government\u2019s view that foreign policy should translate into everyday advantages for citizens, rather than remain confined to diplomatic communiqu\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The minister did not indicate whether additional visa agreements are expected in the coming months, but suggested the government would continue pursuing similar arrangements as part of its broader international strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
