Greene Says Antigua Hosts Five UN Agencies, Urges Expansion of UN Presence<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Foreign Affairs Minister EP Chet Greene<\/a><\/strong> on Friday told Parliament that Antigua and Barbuda<\/a> is currently hosting five United Nations agencies<\/strong><\/a> operating out of St. John\u2019s<\/strong>, and said the government is seeking to expand that presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the 2026 Budget Debate, Greene said the UN agencies now based in Antigua and Barbuda are the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)<\/strong>, UNESCO<\/strong>, UN Women<\/strong>, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)<\/strong> and the United Nations Resident Coordinator\u2019s Office (UNRCO)<\/strong>.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Greene described the presence of the agencies as a significant development for the country<\/a>, noting that their operations support national and regional work in areas such as development, health, gender equality and education<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He told lawmakers that the government intends to build on that footprint and has already issued directives to the UN Resident Coordinator, Andrea Andrews<\/strong>, to pursue the establishment of additional UN agencies in Antigua and Barbuda.<\/p>

\u201cI have given instructions to the Resident Coordinator to attract more UN agencies to Antigua and Barbuda,\u201d Greene said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The minister said expanding the UN presence would further strengthen Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s international profile and deepen its role as a regional hub for multilateral engagement.<\/p>
