Pringle says government must explain why All Saints and other clinics remain closed<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle<\/a> has called on the government to explain the continued closure of key community clinics across the country, saying the shutdowns <\/a>are placing severe burdens<\/a> on elderly residents and contradict the administration\u2019s claims of economic strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the Budget Debate, Pringle said the All Saints Clinic \u201cis still closed<\/em>,<\/a>\u201d forcing older residents seeking medical care \u201cto journey all the way to Glanville<\/em>\u201d even though \u201cit\u2019s not a bus route<\/em>.\u201d <\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n\n\n\n

He added that many cannot \u201ccatch a bus from where they live straight up to Glanvilles<\/a><\/em>,\u201d describing the situation as \u201cthe reality of the people<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

He said the closures undermine the government\u2019s repeated claims that the economy is performing well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou\u2019re coming here to tell the people that things are so good, this country is moving on so well under your leadership,<\/em>\u201d he said, after listing the non-functional facilities.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Pringle pointed to a series of other clinics either closed or in worsening condition, including the Johnson\u2019s Point Clinic, the Browns Avenue Clinic, the Parham Clinic \u2014 which he described as \u201crundown<\/em>\u201d \u2014 and the Pickards, Jennings, and Bendals clinics, all of which he said \u201care in need of attention<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Opposition Leader tied the situation to what he called broader failures in the Ministry of Health. <\/p>

Citing the government\u2019s own budget estimates, he said the ministry admits to \u201cuntimely and insufficient receipt of funds from the treasury<\/em>,\u201d which affects \u201coperational efficiency and the quality of care to clients<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

He added that health facilities face \u201cinadequate maintenance<\/em>,\u201d buildings \u201cin various stages of disrepair<\/em>,\u201d a lack of backup power, non-functioning equipment, shortages of essential supplies, and a shortage of nurses and doctors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pringle said the government cannot boast of surpluses while clinics remain shuttered and vulnerable residents struggle to access basic health services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Calling the situation \u201ca slap in the face to the people of Antigua and Barbuda<\/em>,\u201d he said the administration must account for health conditions that he argues contradict the picture of prosperity presented in the Budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Budget Debate continues as government ministers prepare to respond to the criticisms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
