Antigua and Barbuda has increased security across several of its most visited beaches following a rise in robberies targeting tourists.<\/p>

Ten newly commissioned special constables \u2014 granted full arrest powers \u2014 have been deployed to high-traffic areas, including Ffryes Beach, where recent incidents prompted concern among tourism operators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

St Clair Soleyn, the Ministry of Tourism\u2019s Director of Policy and Planning, said the move forms part of a wider effort to reassure visitors and curb criminal activity.<\/p>

\u201cThese special constables work alongside regular police officers and have full authority to intervene and make arrests,\u201d he Said. \u201cTheir presence alone helps deter individuals who target tourists.\u201d<\/p>

The Ministry is also installing upgraded CCTV systems along key beach corridors, giving police improved tools to monitor activity and support investigations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials say the cameras, combined with increased patrols and closer coordination with local businesses, will strengthen the response to any incidents.<\/p>

The government is working with the Royal Police Force, hotel associations and community groups on long-term measures, including better lighting and rapid-response protocols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the peak tourism season underway, officials say protecting visitors is a top priority as the country seeks to maintain its reputation as a safe destination.<\/p>
