Solid Waste Authority Increasing Cleanup Crews as Demand Grows, Cabinet Says<\/strong>

The Solid Waste Management Authority<\/a> is expanding its street and drain-cleaning crews <\/a>to keep pace with rising national cleanup demands, Cabinet officials said Thursday.<\/p>

Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant said the increase in staffing <\/a>comes as recent heavy rains have triggered rapid overgrowth along roadsides and drains, adding to the workload already created by widespread illegal dumping and repeated bulk-waste accumulation<\/a>. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

He said additional workers are being contracted to ensure cleanup teams<\/a> can respond more quickly and maintain heavily affected areas<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Merchant, the authority is also restructuring its bulk-waste operations, including the rezoning of collection areas, after crews reported returning to cleared sites only to find new piles of waste forming days later.<\/p>

The increased manpower is expected to help stabilize the cleanup schedule as the country continues its national beautification push.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
