The Ministry of Health, Wellness, Environment, and Civil Service Affairs i<\/a>s reporting significant progress <\/a>on the development of the new Sickle Cell Unit.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier today, a site walkthrough<\/a> was conducted by Minister Sir Molwyn Joseph, Director of the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre<\/a>, Dr. Shivon Belle-Jarvis, Head of the Sickle Cell Association, Dr. Edda Hadeed, along with other officials.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

During the visit, the delegation noted that the infrastructure is largely ready, with major preparatory works nearing completion<\/a>. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The facility has been cleaned, the rooms have been freshly painted, and the beds have already been installed \u2014 resulting in a functional five-bedded unit at this stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sickle Cell Unit<\/a> is being designed to provide comprehensive support for individuals living with sickle cell disease, delivering acute clinical care as well as patient education and family counseling services.<\/p>

Officials used the walkthrough to discuss the remaining steps required before the unit becomes operational. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These include finalizing essential equipment, completing staffing arrangements, and implementing specialized training to ensure that the clinical team is fully prepared to deliver high-quality care.<\/p>

The Ministry remains on track for a handover of the unit before the end of the year. Preparations will continue throughout this period to ensure that staff are fully equipped to provide optimal and holistic care to all sickle cell patients.<\/p>

The Minister emphasized the importance of keeping the public updated and reaffirmed the Ministry\u2019s commitment to strengthening care for individuals affected by chronic and inherited blood disorders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
