The University of Guyana will confer the degree of Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa) on Sir Ronald Sanders, Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s Ambassador to the United States and Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS), at its 2025 Convocation. The award will be formally presented at the Faculty of Social Sciences graduation ceremony on Saturday, 22 November 2025, at the Turkeyen Campus in Georgetown.<\/p>

In announcing the honour, the University\u2019s Special Conferral Committee described Sir Ronald as \u201ca transformative figure in diplomacy, business, and academia,\u201d whose career reflects a sustained commitment to diplomacy, good governance, and Caribbean advancement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This latest recognition accompanies Sir Ronald\u2019s earlier award of an Honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt) from the University of the West Indies, underlining his regional standing as one of the Caribbean\u2019s most accomplished diplomats and public intellectuals. Over a five-decade career, he has served as Ambassador to the United States and the OAS, former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador to the World Trade Organization, elected member of the Executive Board of UNESCO, and a leading advocate for the rights of small states in global affairs.<\/p>

Reacting to the announcement, Sir Ronald said he was \u201cdeeply honoured to receive this distinction from Guyana\u2019s national university\u201d and added that \u201cit is especially meaningful to share this occasion with a new generation of graduates whose talents will shape Guyana\u2019s and the Caribbean\u2019s future.\u201d<\/p>
