The Mount St. John\u2019s Medical Centre (MSJMC) today broke its silence on allegations that three babies were burnt at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The statement was released on Tuesday night, less than 24 hours after health minister Molwyn Joseph insisted that the hospital speaks on the matter.<\/p>\n

However, it took the hospital nearly three weeks to respond\u00a0to media reports on the incidents.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

In its statement, the MSJMC said it cares about our patients and take it very seriously when anyone has been negatively affected or unhappy about the care provided.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

It said its staff are dedicated to delivering quality health care services.<\/p>\n

In a wordy statement, the hospital said “the recently highlighted media reports of infants affected while in our care are of great concern and each ongoing case is treated as a circumstance for which discovery and determination of the root cause is of the highest priority.”<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

It added that “the cases are characterized by very unusual circumstances and everyone at MSJMC is deeply impacted.”<\/p>\n

Despite its public silence, MSJMC the respective families were informed with full disclosure of the related particulars and all related roles are being assessed.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

“Our Quality and Risk Department has been actively involved in undertaking the review that is demanded by such cases,” MSJMC said.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The hospital said while the particulars of each case cannot be revealed under the ongoing process it will further educate personnel, “and appropriately counsel those close to the situation.”<\/p>\n

“At the same time, all the related equipment in both our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Maternity Departments have been extensively examined to be assured of optimal performance,” it said.<\/p>\n

The hospital said it will continue to re-enforce its safety policies on a regular basis to handle patient complaints and has strengthened patient care supervision.<\/p>\n

“Medical care is a very sensitive discipline. Notwithstanding, MSJMC strives to learn from
\nexperiences, educate our staff, and make changes to the systems and processes related to any complaint,” the hospital said.<\/p>\n

Just over a thousand babies are born each year at MSJMC.<\/p>\n
