Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Barbuda Affairs, E.P. Chet Greene, has urged a renewed partnership between the European Union (EU) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), founded on justice, sustainability, and shared prosperity.<\/p>

Speaking at the Caribbean\u2013EU Meeting held on the sidelines of the 4th CELAC\u2013EU Summit in Santa Marta, Colombia, Greene emphasized that the Caribbean\u2013EU relationship has long been based on shared values and mutual benefit. He said it is now time to evolve that partnership to meet the challenges of a changing world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAntigua and Barbuda stands at this crossroads of continents not just to participate, but to passionately advocate for a partnership that is both transformative and just,\u201d Greene stated.<\/p>

Reaffirming Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s commitment to multilateralism, Greene described it as vital for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) navigating an era of uncertainty. He commended the EU\u2019s global climate leadership and urged increased investment in renewable energy, concessional financing, and climate-resilient infrastructure across the region.<\/p>

Highlighting the EU\u2019s Global Gateway initiative, Greene said it presents major opportunities to modernize water systems, reduce energy costs, and promote digital inclusion, preparing Caribbean youth to thrive in the digital economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also joined regional counterparts in calling for the EU\u2019s continued cooperation on maintaining the Caribbean as a \u201cZone of Peace\u201d and addressing the crisis in Haiti. Additionally, he appealed for ongoing EU engagement on the region\u2019s Investment Migration programmes, calling them vital to many Caribbean economies.<\/p>
