Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Botchwey <\/a>experienced the warmth and heritage of Antigua and Barbuda<\/a> during an official visit last week, as the country prepares to host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM<\/a>) in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her visit began with a cultural showcase at Sandals Resort<\/a>, where performances by the Antigua Dance Academy<\/a> featured traditional drumming and dance.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Botchwey said the rhythms reminded her of Ghana, calling the performance \u201cheartfelt and unforgettable<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

She later toured the Nelson\u2019s Dockyard National Park\u2014a UNESCO World Heritage Site\u2014accompanied by officials from the National Parks Authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tour included visits to Clarence House, Shirley Heights Lookout and the Dockyard Museum, followed by a traditional Antiguan lunch at the Copper & Lumber Store Hotel.<\/p>

The National Parks Authority said the visit highlighted the nation\u2019s growing international profile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Botchwey\u2019s stopover, though brief, reflected Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s mix of cultural pride, historical preservation and ambition as it prepares to welcome Commonwealth leaders in 2026.<\/p>
