The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA)<\/a> wishes to update the public on ongoing efforts to restore and stabilize power<\/a> generation in Barbuda <\/a>as the island experiences intermittent service disruptions<\/a>.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The interruptions in electricity supply<\/a> are the result of generation challenges at the main Power Plant, currently being addressed by the Electricity Business Unit<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result of this, a generator at the old Power Plant has to be utilized to complement the new power plant during the night, when solar power is not available.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Replacement parts for Generator #1<\/a> at the new Plant have arrived on the island, and repair work is scheduled to commence on 17 November 2025.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The repairs are expected to take approximately two weeks to complete. Once operational, Generator #1<\/a> will significantly enhance generation output and improve service reliability across the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To further strengthen Barbuda\u2019s power system, APUA has procured a new generator for the Green Barbuda Solar Hybrid System (GBSHS), which is the main power plant on the island.<\/p>

This unit is expected to arrive in Antigua within the next six weeks and will subsequently be transported to Barbuda for
installation and commissioning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The integration of this generator will restore full generation capacity at the Plant, bolster system resilience, and ensure a more consistent and dependable electricity supply for residents and businesses.<\/p>

APUA apologizes to the residents of Barbuda for the ongoing power interruptions. The Authority appreciates the understanding shown during this time and assures all customers that work is progressing steadily to complete repairs and restore consistent service as quickly as possible.<\/p>
