PRESS RELEASE<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The Central Board of Health wishes to advise the public of the following information, as it pertains to food service establishments inspected in and around St. John\u2019s, between January to April 5th 2019.<\/p>\n

As a result of the inspection, 11 food service establishments were asked to immediately discontinue the preparation of food for sale to the general public, to enable cleaning amongst other major food safety issues. The suspected food was disposed of.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The violations found were:
\n\u2022 No food safety training\/invalid food handlers badge
\n\u2022 No handwashing station (hands are not washed between task)
\n\u2022 No hot or cold holding device (Food held in the danger zone)
\n\u2022 No personal protective equipment is worn (hair restraints, apron)
\n\u2022 Improper handling of food (issue of cross-contamination)
\n\u2022 Filthy kitchens (walls and floor laden with grease)
\n\u2022 Meats being thawed in baths of stagnant water
\n\u2022 Styrofoam trays which once held raw chicken\/meat being used to store ready to eat foods (cucumber,
\ntomatoes)
\n\u2022 Infestation of flies
\n\u2022 Presence of live and dead roaches, rats and mice droppings<\/p>

Owners and operators of food service establishments are asked to be aware and seek advice from the department so that remedial actions can be taken to correct any faulty practices.<\/p>\n
