Prime Minister Gaston Browne says Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s growing role in international affairs proves that small states can be powerful voices for justice, equality, and climate resilience.<\/p>

In his Independence Day address, Browne said the country\u2019s achievements \u2014 from hosting major global conferences to topping regional development rankings \u2014 demonstrate that its influence extends far beyond its size.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAntigua and Barbuda now ranks number one in the Caribbean on the United Nations Human Development Index,\u201d Browne said. \u201cThis is an extraordinary achievement \u2014 proof that size does not determine significance, and that small states, when well governed, can be global models.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

He described the twin-island nation as \u201csmall, but substantial; modest in geography, but consequential in influence,\u201d adding that its leadership continues to be recognized across the world.<\/p>

Browne pointed to Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s recent track record of hosting international gatherings \u2014 including the UN SIDS4 Conference in 2024<\/strong>, the Organization of American States (OAS) General Assembly in 2025<\/strong>, and the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM)<\/strong> in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese milestones are votes of confidence in our capacity to deliver,\u201d Browne said. \u201cOur voice is heard and respected because we stand on the principles of love, truth, and justice, and we speak with principle, purpose, and passion.\u201d<\/p>

The Prime Minister said the country continues to advocate for reform of the international financial system, fair treatment of small island developing states, and stronger global action on climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur global standing is not a gift,\u201d Browne said. \u201cIt is the earned respect of a country determined to stand up for principle and for justice \u2014 not only for ourselves, but for all those who are threatened or disadvantaged.\u201d<\/p>
