APUA begins major water upgrade project to improve reliability and reduce leaks<\/strong><\/p>

The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) is set to launch a major upgrade of the nation\u2019s water distribution network with the installation of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipelines along the All Saints Road, replacing aging cast-iron mains that have been the source of frequent leaks and water loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Director-General of Communications Maurice Merchant said APUA\u2019s General Manager, Esworth Bradshaw, briefed Cabinet this week on the start of the project, which forms part of the utility\u2019s ongoing water network modernization program. The new HDPE pipes are designed to deliver improved durability, hydraulic performance, and reliability.<\/p>

According to Merchant, the equipment for the project is already on hand, and the new pipelines are expected to arrive on island within two to three weeks. \u201cThe work will begin shortly after the arrival of materials,\u201d he said, adding that roadworks and pipeline installation will be carried out simultaneously<\/strong> from the junction near Townhouse Furnishings through to English Harbour.<\/p>

The Ministry of Works will soon release a detailed schedule of diversions and public advisories as the project moves forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Merchant noted that the initiative represents another step in government\u2019s long-term effort to modernize water infrastructure and improve service reliability for consumers across Antigua and Barbuda<\/p>
