We must first understand what actually happened \u2014 where the system broke down and why.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

                  \u2022               Was it Treasury controls?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  \u2022               Procurement oversight?<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

                  \u2022               Cabinet supervision?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without that clarity, there\u2019s no foundation for any genuine anti-corruption reform.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Because if this could happen in Public Works, what\u2019s happening elsewhere in government?<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

How many other ministries are concealing similar irregularities under layers of secrecy and political protection? What\u2019s needed now is a wider, independent investigation \u2014 not another carefully scripted defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If Prime Minister Gaston Browne truly wanted accountability, he would call for that investigation, not stage a PR campaign. You don\u2019t get to redefine scandal as discovery just because the truth finally slipped out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The real question is this: why is the Prime Minister pushing restitution instead of prosecution? Since when does \u201creform\u201d mean cutting deals with those who looted the public purse? Why this sudden compassion for corruption?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And here\u2019s the part no one wants to say out loud: is it because a real investigation could lead straight back to his own Ministry of Finance \u2014 and to his wife, Minister Maria Browne? Is that why this is being spun as reform instead of reckoning?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s not be fooled. You don\u2019t root out corruption by managing it \u2014 you root it out by exposing everyone involved, without fear or favor. Only then can we begin to build real solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So yes, we want transparency \u2014 but not the kind that stops just before the Prime Minister\u2019s doorstep. If Gaston Browne is as confident in his wife\u2019s innocence as he claims, then prove it: call for an independent inquiry, not another press conference, social media rant, or AI-generated jingle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because the people of Antigua and Barbuda don\u2019t need spin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We need the truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t make the UPP the focus \u2014 make accountability the focus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This isn\u2019t reform or leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s damage control dressed up as courage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
