\u00a0In an inspiring ceremony held this morning at Sandals Grande Antigua Resort & Spa, the Board of Education officially launched the\u00a0Eustace Hill STEM Scholarship<\/strong>\u00a0– a transformative initiative dedicated to supporting and opening new pathways for Antiguan and Barbudan students pursuing studies in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).<\/p>

The highlight of the event was the announcement of the inaugural recipient, Ms. Lakeea Allen, who has already embarked on her academic journey at the University of Derby in the United Kingdom, where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although Ms. Allen could not attend in person, she shared her heartfelt gratitude in a pre-recorded video message, expressing her appreciation for the Board of Education\u2019s support and commitment to student development. Her father, Mr. Alfredo Allen, accepted her symbolic award on her behalf, receiving warm applause from the audience.<\/p>

The scholarship, named in honour of the late Mr. Eustace Hill, celebrates a lifetime of service and dedication to education. Mr. Hill\u2019s contribution to the development of the national education system continues to inspire the Board\u2019s mission to ensure access, equity, and excellence in learning.<\/p>

Delivering remarks at the ceremony, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Ms. Denise Gardiner, reflected on the vision behind the initiative, noting that it represents far more than financial support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis scholarship represents vision, opportunity, and legacy,\u201d she said. \u201cThrough it, we continue Mr. Hill\u2019s enduring commitment to education by investing in young minds who will innovate, build, and lead Antigua and Barbuda into the future.\u201d<\/p>

She further encouraged students to embrace learning and innovation with courage and curiosity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among those in attendance were the Honourable Daryll Matthew, Minister of Education, Sports, and Creative Industries; Mr. Clare Browne, Director of Education; Mrs. Ena Dalso-Henry, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education; Mrs. Carla Farquhar, Executive Secretary of the Board of Education; Mrs. Rosa Greenaway of the Ministry of Social and Urban Transformation; members of the Board of Directors and Executive Management Team of the Board of Education; representatives of the Hill and Allen families; and partners in education.<\/p>

The ceremony featured several touching reflections on the life and legacy of the late Mr. Eustace Hill, each capturing a different dimension of the man whose commitment to education and excellence continues to inspire.<\/p>

Reflecting on his own connection to Mr. Hill, Minister Matthew, recounted his early interactions with him as a participant in the Junior Science Quiz programme. The Minister\u2019s words underscored the enduring influence of Mr. Hill\u2019s mentorship and the forward-looking purpose of the newly launched scholarship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI remember Mr. Hill from my younger years as the gracious and engaging host of the Junior Science Quiz. His passion for education and youth development left an impression on many of us. This scholarship, established in his honour, not only celebrates his legacy but also creates pathways for future generations in STEM, a vital area for our nation\u2019s continued growth,\u201d the Minister said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms. Sharon Proctor, Human Resources Manager at the Board of Education, worked closely with Mr. Hill during his tenure. In her remarks, she described him as a steadfast force whose professionalism and dedication helped shape the culture of the institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMr. Hill\u2019s life was one defined by service, steady, and deeply purposeful. He built a foundation of strength, professionalism, and stewardship that continues to guide us at the Board of Education. We are truly grateful to the Hill family for sharing him with us; his impact will forever be part of our story,\u201d said Ms. Proctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill family, in full attendance, listened with pride as they were honoured for their continued support and for allowing Mr. Hill\u2019s legacy to live on through this commemorative initiative. His daughter Arica Hill, spoke on behalf of the family. She fondly remembered her father as a man of wisdom, warmth, and unwavering encouragement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDaddy was more than an educator; he was our compass. He taught us to lead with integrity, to pursue excellence, and to build our own legacy with humility and heart. On behalf of the entire Hill family, we are deeply touched by this gesture and proud to see his life\u2019s work continue through this scholarship,\u201d she shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The launch of the Eustace Hill STEM Scholarship marks a significant milestone in the Board of Education\u2019s mission to promote academic excellence and innovation, and reaffirms its commitment to positioning Antigua and Barbuda as a nation powered by knowledge, creativity, and technological advancement.<\/p>\n
