The government of Antigua and Barbuda is commemorating 25 years of diplomatic relations with the Government and people of the Republic of Cuba.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n


The two friendly government signed diplomatic relations on April 6th 1994.\u00a0 Former Prime Minister Sir Lester Bird signed on behalf of the government of Antigua while President Fidel Castro signed on behalf of the Cuban people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


As the two countries reflect on the last 2 5years of diplomatic ties, the Cuban Ambassador to Antigua says Fidel Castro should be recognised for his contribution.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n


Speaking on state media the ambassador says “we should remember the former Cuban President Fidel Castro for sterling contribution to regional development, especially in Antigua and Barbuda.”<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n


“We have been in several countries helping them to recover after hurricanes and natural disasters and that kind of cooperation, that kind of assistance is part of the value Cubans have received from the leader of our revolution, that\u2019s why I think in this 25th anniversary we have to remember Fidel, Fidel love the Caribbean countries.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The Cuban ambassador says the unity<\/g> the Caribbean region showed toward tackling climate change is an inspiration to the government and people of Cuba.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n


\u201cHe was also very proud of the unity the Caribbean has, he was always defending always the unity to face not only climate change and the effect these new situations with the climate but also these international situations we are presented with land threats in the world. We are very proud to have 25years of excellent diplomatic relations\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Foreign Affairs Minister E. P. Chet Greene says a commitment to serving the respective countries has seen both governments to 25years of relations.\u00a0
“From our end, we had challenges too, the scholarships to Cuba; some scholarship is complete as we call full raise and there are some we have to make contribute too. There is a financial competent to the Cuban professional service in the country. Those at times have their own challenges but again a commitment to serving our respective countries, to building capacity has seen us 25years on.”<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n


Greene says despite the challenges Cuba has faced, the country has never wavered in its commitment to the government and people of Antigua and Barbuda and those of the Caribbean region.\u00a0<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n


“Philosophically, ours is a commitment to training, to the development of our human capital. So I think Cuba has the same position notwithstanding its financial challenges, they have had hurricanes, they had to increase their security alerts because there were times when the aggression had been palpable so when they had to do that.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The traditional flag raising ceremony will be held on April 6th at the office of the Prime Minister. In addition, a reception among other activities is planned to commemorate this historic moment for the two islands. <\/p>\n
