transparent framework for dealing with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/antiguanewsroom.com\/national-clean-up-for-derelict-and-abandoned-vehicles-starting-february-3-2020\/\">chronic tax defaulters and abandoned lands<\/a><\/strong> that have become health and safety hazards across Antigua and Barbuda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube href=\"https:\/\/antiguanewsroom.com\/opinion-an-examination-of-the-proposed-jolly-beach-transfer-to-the-social-security-scheme-an-assessment-of-strategic-financial-and-governance-risks\/\">Property Tax and Valuation Act<\/a><\/strong>, but instead <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/antiguanewsroom.com\/parliament-passes-tax-bill-to-clean-up-abandoned-properties-improve-tax-collection\/\">modernizes procedures<\/a><\/strong> for enforcement. He emphasized that the law includes <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/safeguards\" rel=\"nofollow\">safeguards for taxpayers<\/a><\/strong>, such as proper valuation, notice periods, and refund provisions for any excess funds from property sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also addressed the Opposition\u2019s interpretation of the 30-day payment clause, saying it applies only <strong>after repeated nonpayment over several years<\/strong>. \u201cIt\u2019s not a case where someone misses one payment and loses their home,\u201d Browne said. \u201cThere are multiple stages of notice and engagement before any enforced<\/strong>, aligning Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s tax laws with modern international standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Browne argued that tackling derelict properties is both an economic and social priority, as neglected lots attract illegal dumping, pests, and criminal activity. \u201cPractically one in every three homes in some constituencies are derelict,\u201d he said, echoing earlier
