Theme:<\/strong> \u201cImproving Lives through Statistics: Strengthening and Innovating Together\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caribbean Statistics Day<\/a> on 15 October 2025 coincides with the culmination of the 2024\u20132025 Year of Statistics in CARICOM<\/a><\/em>, which marked the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Standing Committee of Caribbean Statisticians. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

This jubilee milestone year highlights the importance of statistics in shaping the development and resilience of CARICOM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the year, the Community placed renewed emphasis on standards, harmonization, and the integration of statistical systems.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Key regional instruments have been successfully piloted and are now being institutionalized, including the CARICOM Quality Assurance Framework<\/strong>, CARICOM Code of Good Statistical Practices<\/strong>, and the Generic Statistical Business Process Model<\/strong>, which guides the end-to-end lifecycle of all statistical activities.<\/p>

CARICOM is at the midpoint of implementing the twelve-year Regional Strategy for the Development of Statistics<\/em>, which provides a clear roadmap and mechanisms to strengthen statistical systems, ensuring that accurate and timely data inform decision-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CARICOM governments are reviewing the necessary legal and institutional frameworks, and seeking to provide the financial, technical, and human resources to support the work of National Statistical Offices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This includes recognizing the increasing role of digital transformation and modernized statistical operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe journey ahead is as critical as the progress behind us. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the community spirit which exemplifies CARICOM, a harmonized regional approach to statistics development will continue to be essential as we strive to fill data gaps and improve statistical standards across the Region,\u201d Dr. Barnett said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Caribbean Statistics Day, the Secretary-General reaffirmed CARICOM\u2019s commitment to strengthening national and regional statistical processes to ensure timely and accurate data for decision-making, in keeping with this year\u2019s theme: \u201cImproving Lives through Statistics: Strengthening and Innovating Together.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

About CARICOM<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM)<\/strong> was established on 4 July 1973 with the signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas, which was revised in 2001 to allow for the establishment of a single market and economy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

CARICOM comprises fifteen Member States and six Associate Members and is home to approximately sixteen million citizens\u201460% of whom are under 30 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CARICOM\u2019s work rests on four main pillars: economic integration<\/strong>, foreign policy coordination<\/strong>, human and social development<\/strong>, and security cooperation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Member States work together to create a Community that is integrated, inclusive, and resilient\u2014driven by knowledge, excellence, innovation, and productivity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It aims to be a unified and competitive force in the global arena, where every citizen is secure and has the opportunity to realise his or her potential with guaranteed human rights and social justice, contributing to and sharing in the region\u2019s economic, social, and cultural prosperity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CARICOM remains one of the best examples of integration in the developing world. The CARICOM Secretariat<\/strong>, the principal administrative organ of the Community, is headquartered in Georgetown, Guyana<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
