Antigua Ministry of Agriculture,Lands, Fisheries & The Blue Economy said:<\/strong><\/em> The Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Fisheries and the Blue Economy <\/a>is expressing concern over the increasing reports of vandalism and theft<\/a> affecting farms and agricultural facilities across Antigua<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incidents, which range from crop damage to livestock theft and the destruction of critical farm infrastructure<\/a>, are posing a serious threat to national efforts aimed at strengthening food security and promoting agricultural sustainability.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In recent months, several farmers have reported damage to irrigation systems, stolen produce, and the killing or disappearance of animals. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

These acts not only result in financial loss for individual farmers but also discourage investment and long-term participation in agriculture \u2014 particularly among youth and new entrants to the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry continues to make significant strides in revitalizing the industry through training, infrastructure support, and access to modern technology. However, vandalism and theft undermine these achievements and threaten to erode confidence among local producers.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Vandalism in agriculture extends beyond individual loss. It disrupts the national production chain, increases the cost of doing business, and ultimately impacts food availability and affordability. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry recognizes that these actions also create social tension, especially in rural communities where livelihoods depend heavily on farming.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry is encouraging citizens to view agricultural vandalism not as an isolated or minor offense, but as a direct attack on the country\u2019s food security. Members of the public are being urged to report suspicious activities and to support farmers by respecting agricultural property and produce.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Farmers are also advised to take preventive steps where possible \u2014 such as improving lighting and fencing, organizing neighborhood watch groups, and keeping records of incidents for law enforcement follow-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Partnerships with law enforcement and community organizations to improve rural patrols, enhance farmer awareness, and introduce security assistance measures for vulnerable farms are being explored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Public education campaigns are also being planned to highlight the importance of agriculture and to foster a stronger sense of shared responsibility for protecting the nation\u2019s food supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry reaffirms its commitment to creating a secure and supportive environment for farmers and all stakeholders in the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
