The Governor General\u2019s Deputy, Sir Clare Roberts, KCN, QC, today administered the Oath of Office to Mrs. Juliet Benjamin, marking her reappointment as a Member of the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC). The ceremony was held at Government House in St. John\u2019s.<\/p>

In his remarks, Sir Clare noted that Mrs. Benjamin\u2019s reappointment comes at a time when the Electoral Commission continues to demonstrate excellence and integrity in electoral administration. He congratulated Mrs. Benjamin on her continued service and commended her record of professionalism and thoughtful contribution during her previous seven-year term, which began in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stated, \u201cThe Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission stands as one of the cornerstones of our democracy, entrusted with safeguarding transparency, fairness, and independence in the electoral process. Mrs. Benjamin has served with distinction, and her reappointment reflects the confidence placed in her integrity and balanced approach.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

Sir Clare also highlighted the Commission\u2019s recent international achievement, noting that ABEC received the International Electoral Management Award at the 21st International Electoral Awards held in Gaborone, Botswana. He observed that this recognition placed Antigua and Barbuda among the world\u2019s leading electoral institutions and commended the Commission\u2019s dedication to secure, transparent, and well-managed elections.<\/p>

Mrs. Benjamin was reappointed under Section 3(2A)(d) of the Representation of the People (Amendment) Act 2001<\/em>, on the advice of the Honourable Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Jamale Pringle. In attendance at the ceremony were the Chairman of the United Progressive Party, Mrs. Benjamin\u2019s son and a family friend.<\/p>\n
