Scores of officials from the nation\u2019s security agencies are currently undergoing a 9-week training programme dubbed \u20182019 Law Integrated Law Enforcement Training\u2019.<\/p>

The programme brings together officials from the Royal\nPolice Force of Antigua and Barbuda, The ONDCP, Her Majesty\u2019s Prison, the\nCustoms and Excise Division, the Antigua and Barbuda Defense Force, and the\nImmigration Department. The training is the first of its kind. It is taking\nplace at the Sir Wright George Training Academy at the Longsford Police\nStation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delivering the feature address, Minister responsible\nfor Immigration, Hon. E.P Chet Greene urged the participants to \u2018grab\u2019 the\ntraining with both hands as it represents an important juncture in their\npersonal and professional development. He noted that when he was appointed to\nthe portfolio just over a year ago, he recognized that there was a need for\ncontinued training as well as a need to provide a programme of training that\nbrought all the law enforcement agencies together under an integrated approach\nto that training.<\/p>

He told the participants that the training represents\na commitment by the agencies individually and the government to train law\nenforcement officers to meet the global demands for increased security.<\/p>

The minister added that the organisers have set a pass\nmark of 70 percent and there\u2019s an expectation that all participants would\nrecord passing grades. \u201cFailure is not an option!\u201d Greene declared. He\nexplained that grading will also be based on both attendance and punctuality. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Greene the high pass mark forms part of\nnew standards that are being set, especially by the Immigration Department.\nDescribing the training as \u2018life-changing\u2019, Greene admonished the participants\nto approach the training with the level of seriousness it requires, noting that\nhe would be very disappointed to learn of any failures.<\/p>

 He added that\nhe intends to \u2018drop by\u2019 the training from time to time to get a handle of how\nthe sessions are coming along. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also addressing the session was acting Commissioner of\nPolice, Atlee Rodney, who said the training exercise offers the different\nagencies an opportunity not only to work together, but also to train together.\nHe said he expects there to be professional relationships that are developed\nbecause of the training which may redound to the benefit of Antigua and\nBarbuda.<\/p>
