Science, was named valedictorian of the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus Class of 2025, delivering an inspiring address on resilience and the responsible use of artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking under the theme <em>\u201cPelicans in an AI-Driven Future: Where Tradition Meets Tomorrow,\u201d<\/em> Charles reflected on his academic journey and the obstacles that nearly forced him to leave university. \u201cThere were at least three occasions when I almost dropped out,\u201d he said. \u201cEach time I leaned on faith, on my lecturers, on my colleagues, and on the optimism that tomorrow could be brighter.\u201d<\/p><div id=\"antig-2455869523\" class=\"antig-content_4 antig-entity-placement\"><a href=\"https:\/\/discoverflow.co\/web\/antigua\" eventually led him to his current job as a fraud analyst. \u201cIt showed how the skills I gained here could be applied to real-world problems in a technology-driven, AI-powered age,\u201d he width=\"1080\" height=\"1350\"   \/><\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>He recalled moments of doubt early in his studies, noting that he almost lost his scholarship in his first year. \u201cIt was a humbling moment filled with doubts and comparisons,\u201d he said. \u201cBut I realized the only true comparison worth making was to myself. I picked myself up, studied smarter, and pushed harder to move forward.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The valedictorian emphasized that his time at UWI Five Islands taught him more than academics. \u201cThe university gave me resilience when I wanted to give up,\u201d he said. \u201cIt gave me lifelong companions and opportunities I never could have created on my own.\u201d<\/p><div id=\"antig-1269163622\" class=\"antig-content_2 antig-entity-placement\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.courts.com\/antigua\/\" aria-label=\"500X500 (1)\"><img src=\"https:\/\/mlavawteztbj.i.optimole.com\/w:500\/h:500\/q:mauto\/f:best\/https:\/\/antiguanewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/500X500-1.jpg\" alt=\"\"  srcset=\"https:\/\/mlavawteztbj.i.optimole.com\/w:500\/h:500\/q:mauto\/f:best\/https:\/\/antiguanewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/500X500-1.jpg 500w, https:\/\/mlavawteztbj.i.optimole.com\/w:300\/h:300\/q:mauto\/f:best\/https:\/\/antiguanewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/500X500-1.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mlavawteztbj.i.optimole.com\/w:150\/h:150\/q:mauto\/f:best\/https:\/\/antiguanewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/500X500-1.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\"   \/><\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>He spoke fondly of late-night hackathons, volleyball matches and student club activities, describing them as lessons in teamwork and creativity. \u201cThe best way to grow is to grow with others,\u201d Charles said, addressing an audience that included Prime Minister Gaston Browne, the Governor General\u2019s Deputy Sir Clare Roberts and other dignitaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Charles also spoke about the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, noting its impact on industries from healthcare to disaster prediction. \u201cArtificial intelligence will transform the world of work, of business, of creativity itself,\u201d he said. \u201cFrom predicting hurricanes to diagnosing illnesses, AI is changing lives. I would not be here without you,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCongratulations to the class of 2025.
