COBBS CROSS, Antigua \u2014 October 6, 2025<\/em> \u2014 Prime Minister Gaston Browne<\/strong> says Antigua and Barbuda has completed the rebuilding or repair of 17 of the country\u2019s 23 community health clinics<\/strong>, marking significant progress in the government\u2019s national healthcare infrastructure program.<\/p>

Speaking at the reopening of the Cobbs Cross Clinic on Monday, Browne commended the Ministry of Health and Public Works for their collaboration in modernizing facilities that had fallen into disrepair. He said the improvements form part of the government\u2019s strategy to strengthen primary healthcare and expand access to essential services across the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOut of the 23 clinics across Antigua and Barbuda, 17 have already been rebuilt or repaired,\u201d Browne said. \u201cWe intend to complete the remaining six so that every community has a facility that meets modern healthcare standards.\u201d<\/p>

The Prime Minister said the Cobbs Cross Clinic, closed for more than two decades, exemplifies the administration\u2019s focus on restoring access to care in underserved areas. The facility will now provide maternal and child services, immunizations, chronic disease management, and family planning.<\/p>

Browne noted that the progress reflects coordinated efforts between the Ministry of Health<\/strong>, led by Sir Molwyn Joseph<\/strong>, and the Ministry of Works<\/strong>, which oversaw the construction and engineering aspects of the clinic projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government, he said, remains committed to ensuring that each clinic is properly staffed and equipped to deliver reliable, community-based care.<\/p>

\u201cWe are building a healthcare system that is not temporary or improvised,\u201d Browne said. \u201cIt is sustainable, modern, and designed to serve every citizen with dignity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The completion of the remaining six clinics is expected to bring the country\u2019s primary healthcare network to full capacity, supporting broader initiatives such as the upcoming National Health Insurance<\/strong> and expanded diagnostic services at the community level.<\/p>
