Prime Minister Gaston Browne says his administration has slashed the cost of road construction to about EC $2 million per mile, compared to roughly EC $10 million per mile under the previous United Progressive Party (UPP) government.<\/p>

Speaking on the Browne and Browne Show<\/em> on Pointe FM, Browne said the reduction reflects improved efficiency, stronger oversight, and better value for taxpayers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen the UPP was in office, they were paying ten million dollars a mile for roads,\u201d Browne said. \u201cWe are doing it for about two million dollars a mile \u2014 and with better quality work.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

He credited the Ministry of Works, engineers, and local contractors for delivering major savings while maintaining high construction standards.<\/p>

\u201cWe have demonstrated that we can deliver infrastructure at a fraction of what it used to cost,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s because of accountability and better oversight.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prime minister said the results are evident in the government\u2019s ongoing national road rehabilitation programme, which includes upgrades to All Saints Road, Valley Road North, Anchorage Road, and the Sir Sydney Walling Highway.<\/p>

He added that the upcoming $100 million road improvement project<\/strong>, starting with a $10 million drawdown<\/strong> for All Saints Road, will continue to apply the same cost-efficient approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur goal is to deliver better roads for less,\u201d Browne said. \u201cThat\u2019s what good management looks like.\u201d<\/p>
