ST. JOHN\u2019S, Antigua \u2014 Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s role in international climate diplomacy has been strengthened with the appointment of Crown Counsel Zachary Phillips to a key global position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Phillips, who serves in the Attorney General\u2019s Chambers, has been invited to act as Legal Coordinator for the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) during the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Bel\u00e9m, Brazil, from Nov. 6\u201321, 2025.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In his new role, he will advise the AOSIS Chair and lead negotiators on legal and strategic matters, coordinate positions across the negotiation agenda, and assist in drafting and reviewing legal texts. His appointment underscores both his expertise and Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s growing leadership in climate negotiations.<\/p>

Attorney General and Minister for Legal Affairs Sir Steadroy Benjamin announced the appointment to Cabinet, describing it as a proud moment for the country. He said Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s growing presence in international forums reflects its strong advocacy for the interests of small island developing states, particularly in the areas of climate resilience and justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
