A high surf warning<\/a> has been issued for Barbuda<\/a>, with forecasters warning of dangerous marine conditions through the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service<\/a> said swells could generate waves over 10ft (3m) and seas reaching 11ft (3.4m). The warning will be in effect from Friday night through to Monday afternoon.<\/p>

Neighbouring Anguilla and the British Virgin Islands are also under warnings, with hazardous conditions expected from Friday into Monday.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Officials have raised the threat level to high<\/em>, warning of life-threatening rip currents, coastal flooding, beach erosion, reef damage and hazardous navigation in harbours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents and visitors are being urged to stay out of the water in the affected areas, avoid reefs and coastal structures, and only swim at sheltered beaches with lifeguard supervision.<\/p>
