Two members of the legal fraternity called for judicial officers in the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court to serve life tenures.<\/p>

The overtures were made Monday at a Special Sitting for late Justice of Appeal and High Court Judge, Albert Redhead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sir Gerald Watt QC asked his legal colleagues, \u201cHow can you in a small country or countries\u2026 how can we continue to retire judges at 62 unless it is ill health and then retire them at 65 when once they are at the top of their games?\u201d.<\/p>

\u201cWhy do we continue to do it?\u201d Sir Gerald mused, adding, \u201cIt is ridiculous!\u201d<\/p>

The proposal was met with agreement by Attorney, Hugh Marshall Jr. , who said, \u201cI want to join the call on the appointment of judges for life\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think it is a serious indictment on our jurisprudence; the manner in which we have allowed this practice of retiring judges at 62 and 65 to continue and for us to remain silent about it\u201d, Marshall Jr. declared.<\/p>
