An 18-year-old from St. Phillip\u2019s Village has been convicted on several traffic charges after taking his cousin\u2019s car without permission and crashing into a parked bus along the Freetown main road on Sept. 27.<\/p>

The teen, who pleaded guilty to six offenses before Acting Chief Magistrate Dexter Wason, was charged with careless driving, driving without the owner\u2019s consent, driving without insurance, driving without a licence, failing to report an accident, and failing to remain at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police said he drove off after the collision, which damaged the bus\u2019s bumper and taillight. He was later arrested at the Freetown Police Station.<\/p>

The court reprimanded and discharged him on three counts, barred him from obtaining a driver\u2019s licence for 90 days, and fined him $1,000 for driving without insurance.<\/p>

Sentencing on the careless driving charge was deferred to Oct. 2, when the victim is expected to submit a repair estimate.<\/p>\n
