Antigua and Barbuda <\/a>has rejected US President Donald Trump\u2019s dismissal of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) as ineffective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking in New York, Mr Trump questioned the purpose of the UN, claiming it offered only \u201cempty words\u201d and labelling climate change a \u201ccon job\u201d.<\/p>

But Cabinet Spokesperson Maurice Merchant said Prime Minister Gaston Browne\u2019s participation was vital for Antigua and Barbuda, especially on climate change and small island issues.<\/p>

\u201cMany countries rely on Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s<\/a> voice,\u201d Mr Merchant said, adding that bilateral talks had already produced \u201cvery successful\u201d outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Browne is attending UNGA80 with Foreign Minister E.P. Chet Greene, Health Minister Sir Molwyn Joseph, Ambassador Walton Webson and other officials.<\/p>
