The official business of state normally carried out during meetings of the Cabinet had to be postponed yesterday, due to the absence of several members.<\/p>

Chief of Staff Lionel Hurst announced the postponement of Cabinet which is normally held on Wednesdays.<\/p>\n

He said the executive will meet instead next week June 7, 2017<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/div>\n

When Antigua News Room asked Hurst why, he said \u201cseveral Cabinet ministers are away.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

He also indicated that during the debate in parliament, the absence of the members signaled a likely postponement.<\/p>\n

Among members absent are Prime Minister Gaston Browne, Health Minister Molwyn Joseph, Works Minister Eustace Lake, Sports Minister Chet Greene, Telecommunications Minister Melford Nicholas, Foreign Affairs Minister Charles Fernandez and Education Minister Michael Browne.<\/p>

\u201cIt is better to proceed when there are few members absent,\u201d Hurst said.<\/p>\n

The postponement of Cabinet is rare and in the absence of the Prime Minister the acting Prime Minister chairs the session.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The executive body also breaks at least twice a year during major holidays such as Christmas. However, this is the first time that the body has not been able to function due to the absence of members.<\/p>

Hurst did not indicate whether the MP\u2019s were on personal or state business.<\/p>\n
