Two representatives from the Jamaican feed company NUTRAMIX which is one of the CB Group subsidiaries are on island with the main aim of offering technical support to livestock farmers.<\/p>

In a meeting held under the auspices of Mr. Adrian Hall\/Livestock farmer and Mr. Emanuel Peters\/Nutramix Distributor, the Nutramix duo in persons of Dr. Gilbert Williams\/Veterinarian and Mr. Winston Thomas\/Regional Sales Manager held very informative discussions with approximately twenty livestock farmers at the Multipurpose Centre on Tuesday 23rd September.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In his deliverance, Mr. Thomas presented a short video and a synopsis of the CB Group and its two subsidiaries Newport Mill Ltd. and Nutramix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He expressed to the participants that the three main areas of focus in the livestock business were (a) good genes (b) good feed and (c) good management.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, they were assured that the first two are really out of their control whereas the management of their operations are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His words of wisdom that were imparted were not only of his current profession as a sales manager but also from his years of experience as a livestock farmer.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Williams during his power point presentation gave many technical advice and real time insights to the attendees. This included information such as:<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Biosafety: especially keeping what is on the farm there and not allowing others to bring anything there. He admonished that proper protocol and procedures are to be practiced at all times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The layout and construction of the chicken coops are very important, examples he gave in regard to the proper location which is from east to west and erected on one block height.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Deworming as often as every three months, vitamins and minerals every two months over a five-day periods and vaccination to be administered twice yearly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Signs and symptoms for ruminants that need deworming (white eyelids, box jaws, weight loss and wet\/messy tails) and advised the farmers that the entire herds must never be wormed at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Switching of feeds should always be that of a smooth transition<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sixteen hours of light is required for layers<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Good wind flow offers many benefits for poultry production<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the heavy rainfall, the meeting was well attended and by every estimation a success, not only were the farmers attentive but a tremendous number of interactions took place during the sessions. Both Dr. Williams and Mr. Thomas encouraged the farmers to incorporate the recommendations given so they would be able to have healthier livestock and an increase in production.<\/p>\n
