Antigua and Barbuda Sees Surge in UK Trade and Investment<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Trade between the United Kingdom and Antigua and Barbuda<\/a> has grown sharply, with new figures showing a near 19% increase in the past year.<\/p>

According to the UK Department for Business and Trade, total goods and services exchanged between the two countries reached \u00a3273 million in the 12 months to March 2025<\/strong>, up by \u00a343 million<\/strong> compared with the previous year.<\/p>

UK exports to Antigua and Barbuda<\/a> rose by almost half to \u00a353 million<\/strong>, with goods such as ships, electrical equipment and textiles making up the bulk of the trade. Services, particularly linked to tourism and finance, also grew strongly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In contrast, imports into Britain from Antigua and Barbuda reached \u00a3220 million<\/strong>, dominated by services which accounted for nearly 99% of the total. This left the UK with a trade deficit of \u00a3167 million<\/strong>, widening from the year before.<\/p>

While the figures mark a notable rise, Antigua and Barbuda remains a relatively minor partner for the UK, ranking 125th among Britain\u2019s trading partners<\/strong> and accounting for less than 0.1% of overall trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nevertheless, the UK\u2019s share of the Antiguan import market increased to 4.6% in 2024<\/strong>, suggesting a strengthening foothold.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The investment <\/a>relationship is more striking. British firms held \u00a3753 million of foreign direct investment in Antigua and Barbuda<\/strong> at the end of 2023, an 8.8% increase from the year before. By contrast, Antiguan investment in the UK stood at just \u00a32 million<\/strong>.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s economy is forecast to expand steadily, with GDP growth of 3% in 2025<\/strong> and 2.5% in 2026<\/strong>. Rising income per capita and falling public debt are seen as indicators of stability, though the country continues to run a large current account deficit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials note that the figures reflect Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s reliance on services exports, especially tourism, which remain the backbone of its trade with Britain. For the UK, the Caribbean nation represents a niche but growing market for industrial and consumer goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
