The SIDS Global Centre of Excellence, which will be headquartered in Antigua and Barbuda, is poised to take centre stage at the 80th<\/sup> session of the United Nations General Assembly, as world leaders from around the world begin to assemble in New York for the annual gathering.<\/p>

Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Walton Webson has already set the tone for what is promising to be a significant week of unprecedented international attention for the COE, one of the most significant outcomes of the SIDS4 Conference, which Antigua and Barbuda proudly hosted last year. On Saturday, he joined the Permanent Representative of Tuvalu to the United Nations, Ambassador Tapugao Falefou and the Permanent Representative of the Solomon Islands Jane Waetara on a panel hosted by the PVBLIC Foundation during its Parnerships Day<\/strong> at the United Nations headquarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event brought together leaders, innovators and changemakers as part of the PVBLIC Foundation\u2019s mission to spark collaboration and accelerate progress on some of the world\u2019s most pressing challenges. It\u2019s a vision that aligns with the SIDS Centre of Excellence, which itself is envisioned to be a game changer for island nations in addressing some of their most urgent imperatives.<\/p>

\u201cThe SIDS Center of Excellence is the tangible, operational answer to the pledges made in the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS (ABAS). It is the mechanism designed to finally turn our decade of strategies into a century of sovereign, resilient prosperity,\u201d Ambassador told the gathering.<\/p>

In a direct appeal to investment and development partners in the room, Ambassador Webson urged that they not see the Centre of Excellence as a cost, but \u201cas a strategic investment in global stability and a sustainable future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SIDS Centre of Excellence, which will be launched at an official event later this week, will be a dominant theme not only for Antigua and Barbuda but for all SIDS over the next few days of the 80th<\/sup> session of the UN General Assembly.<\/p>
