Antigua and Barbuda delighted home supporters with a 3\u20131 victory over Grenada on the opening night of the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) Final Four Men\u2019s competition at the YMCA.<\/p>

Despite dropping the opening set 19\u201325, the hosts rallied to take control, winning the next three frames 25\u201317, 25\u201318, 25\u201319.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grenada\u2019s Darron Oxford finished as the match\u2019s top scorer with 17 points, while Cairon Davis led Antigua and Barbuda with 16.<\/p>

\u201cIt was disappointing to lose,\u201d Oxford admitted. \u201cOur mistakes were a little too much. We need to capitalize on our opponents\u2019 game and tighten up moving forward.\u201d<\/p>

Antigua and Barbuda captain Collin Thomas credited his team\u2019s resilience: \u201cWe started shaky, and the guys were nervous. But as the game went on, we picked up momentum. The bench was amazing rallying behind us. It was a strong showing for our first game.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the evening\u2019s opening contest, Saint Lucia battled past Dominica in a dramatic five-setter, prevailing 3\u20132 (17\u201325, 25\u201317, 25\u201321, 25\u201319, 16\u201314).<\/p>

Dominica\u2019s captain Yhan Florent led all scorers with 26 points, while Tevin St. Jean paced Saint Lucia with 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was a tightly contested game, but we came out super strong,\u201d said Saint Lucia captain Clercent Joseph. \u201cStarting off this tournament with a win sets the standard for the rest of the weekend.\u201d<\/p>

Florent reflected on his side\u2019s effort: \u201cWe started off with a great first set. There were ups and downs, but we will come back stronger.\u201d<\/p>

Play continues today with morning fixtures at 9:00 and 11:00 as Saint Lucia meet Grenada, followed by Antigua and Barbuda against Dominica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The evening session resumes with Grenada facing Dominica at 18:00, before Saint Lucia take on Antigua and Barbuda at 20:30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
