Closing Ceremony Marks Completion of Fisheries & Aquaculture Training in Antigua and Barbuda by Shenequa Williams<\/p>

<\/a>Today the Villa Community Centre hosted the Closing Ceremony for the Training on Fisheries & Aquaculture Development and Management, celebrating the graduation of approximately 90 participants. The three-week programme was conducted in collaboration with the People\u2019s Republic of China and the Freshwater Fisheries Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ceremony was chaired by Mr. Rohan Jarvis and opened with a prayer by Dr. Elmore Martin.<\/p>

In her Welcome Remarks, Ms. Ann-Louise Hill\/ Director of the Department of the Blue Economy, highlighted the value of the programme in enhancing knowledge, fostering sustainable food security, and reducing pressure on traditional fishing.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

His Excellency Dean Jonas\/Ambassador of Blue Economy Matters, expressed strong support for developing the blue economy and recognized the efforts of Chinese officials, including Her Excellency Zhang Yangling and Professor Zhu Jian. He noted that the training strengthened technical knowledge as well as international cooperation and friendship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Zhu Jian\/ Assistant Director General of the Freshwater Fisheries Research Center, congratulated participants and praised the collaboration between China and Antigua and Barbuda, emphasizing the programme\u2019s success in delivering practical knowledge and experience.<\/p>

Her Excellency Zhang Yanling\/Chinese Ambassador, underscored the fruitful cooperation between the two countries and highlighted growing opportunities for Antiguan and Barbudan participation in training initiatives in China, reinforcing sustainable approaches to aquaculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Feature Address, Minister Hon. Anthony Smith Jr. \/Minister of Agriculture, Lands, Fisheries & the Blue Economy congratulated the graduates for their dedication, noting their mastery of key skills in species propagation, fish nutrition, feed technology, and marine fish culture. He encouraged participants to use their knowledge to innovate, strengthen food security, and protect ocean resources.<\/p>

Certificates were distributed, followed by a Vote of Thanks, acknowledging the support of the Government of China, facilitators, and all involved in delivering the training. The programme\u2019s practical approach, including fieldwork, lab exercises, and hands-on learning, was praised for fostering lasting partnerships and a shared vision for sustainable aquaculture.<\/p>
