The St. John\u2019s Fire Station is relocating to Dredge Bay as preparations begin for the construction of a modern headquarters on Factory Road.<\/p>

Attorney General and Public Safety Minister Sir Steadroy Benjamin confirmed the move, noting that phone lines and other infrastructure were transferred earlier this week. He said Dredge Bay was chosen because it already has suitable buildings, parking, and storage for fire engines, making it a practical option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Proposals to build a temporary station east of Factory Road were rejected as too costly and time-consuming, with Sir Steadroy stressing that Dredge Bay offered a quicker and more efficient solution.<\/p>

The Factory Road station has served for more than 60 years but has faced repeated complaints, including mould problems that left several firefighters ill earlier this year. Sir Steadroy said the issue has persisted since 2004 and underscored the urgent need for a modern facility.<\/p>
