Dr. Jonathan McComie, Medical Doctor attached the Special Olympics team, Dubai, 2019 said that team Antigua and Barbuda as a new nations team is doing remarkably well thus far adding that the focus must be on ensuring that the team does not become defunct after returning home.<\/p>

He said that he is particularly pleased that he was able to accomplish medical screenings for all of the athletes representing the twin island state. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. McComie also added that it was ideal to take advantage of the screening process for the athletes whom have all been screened by specialist doctors for corrections to be made if necessary. <\/p>

Dr. McComie said that he is pleased to report that all four athletes had no challenges and none of them require hearing devices adding that if needed the devices would have been provided without cost. Each athlete received professional athletic running gears free of cost and was fitted by the organizers.
\nHe noted that the athletes participated in an interactive screening session that allowed for their personal development, social adaptation as they learnt relaxation techniques prior to an event and they are now in a position to better deal with the challenges associated with competing in an event such as the Olympics.
\nHe said that the nutritional component of the games is of a very high standard and the team is doing extremely well with all elements abundantly available to members of the delegation.
\nHe added that upon returning home the team has worked to do in terms and optical and dental care for the athletes and he is confident that the Ministry of Health will spear no effort in ensuring that this is done and by all means necessary.
\nThe Medical Doctor attached to the team points to what he calls Life After Dubai Olympics 2019. He said the team is hopeful that the athletes will continue in the quest for the next special Olympics as team Antigua and Barbuda is only participating in track and field but the coaches and the head of the delegation have been exploring other options that are available to incorporate a wider range of events that the Antigua and Barbuda delegation can participate in in the future.
\nDr. McComie concluded with high commendations for Joyann Harrigan, Special Education Officer within the Ministry of Education for being such a driving force behind a successful team and added that it is exceptional that team Antigua and Barbuda will be bringing home three (3) medals at its very first attempt in track and field at the Special Olympics<\/p>
