The National Hurricane Center has confirmed the formation of Tropical Depression Seven in the central Atlantic early Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 5:00 a.m. AST (0900 UTC), the system was located near latitude 13.7\u00b0N and longitude 45.9\u00b0W, moving west at around 13 mph (20 km\/h). Forecasters expect the depression to gradually shift west-northwest to northwest over the next several days.<\/p>

Maximum sustained winds are currently near 35 mph (55 km\/h) with higher gusts. Slow strengthening is forecast, and the depression could be upgraded to a tropical storm later today or tonight. The minimum central pressure is estimated at 1007 mb (29.74 inches).<\/p>

While the system is expected to intensify further into a hurricane as it tracks across the tropical and subtropical Atlantic, meteorologists say it poses no threat to the Caribbean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A tropical wave located just east and southeast of the Cabo Verde Islands is producing an area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions are only marginally conducive, and any development of this system should be slow to occur while it moves westward at 15 to 20 mph across the eastern and central portion of the tropical Atlantic. Regardless of development, this system will likely bring areas of heavy rain across the Cabo Verde Islands later today and Thursday.<\/p>
