Foreign Affairs Minister E.P. Chet Greene has said Antigua and Barbuda is intensifying preparations to welcome world leaders for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).<\/p>

Greene revealed that officials are in final discussions with Buckingham Palace and the Commonwealth Secretariat to settle key arrangements for the high-level gathering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur permanent secretary leaves this weekend to meet with the Commonwealth Secretariat to formalise some of what is going to happen next year here in Antigua,\u201d Greene said, noting that the island is ready to take on its role as host.<\/p>

The minister said the meeting would provide a chance to highlight Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s diplomatic standing and showcase the Caribbean\u2019s growing collaboration with Africa. He welcomed Zambia\u2019s participation, pointing out that the event is expected to draw strong African representation.<\/p>

\u201cIt will be perhaps the first occasion to show the unity that we are now promoting,\u201d Greene remarked, referencing the momentum built at the recent African Union\u2013CARICOM summit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greene added that Antigua and Barbuda anticipates a large Zambian delegation at CHOGM, reflecting the importance of strengthening South\u2013South ties.<\/p>
