The government of Antigua and Barbuda has reaffirmed its commitment to establishing a national forensics laboratory, describing the project as a priority despite delays.<\/p>

Cabinet spokesman Maurice Merchant told reporters that officers are already undergoing specialist training overseas, with one expected to return shortly with a master\u2019s degree in ballistics. Others are being trained locally in forensic techniques to support the unit once operational.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Merchant said the government is in the process of identifying the right partner company and equipment to set up the facility. \u201cIt is still at the top of the agenda of both the police and the government of Antigua and Barbuda,\u201d he explained.<\/p>

The forensics unit is expected to improve the Royal Police Force\u2019s ability to solve serious crimes, including murders, and reduce reliance on external laboratories.<\/p>

Officials believe the laboratory will also boost public confidence in the justice system by improving the pace and quality of investigations. While no firm timeline has been set for completion, Merchant stressed that the government remains fully committed to delivering the project.<\/p>\n
