A \u20ac1.1 million Caterpillar excavator purchased in Holland to support dredging works in Antigua and Barbuda is expected to arrive within the next two to three months.<\/p>

Cabinet spokesman Maurice Merchant confirmed that 50% of the payment has already been made, with the balance due upon delivery. He said the equipment was specifically chosen after careful assessment to ensure it can break through the stubborn rock that has delayed dredging projects at St John\u2019s Harbour and Crabs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previous attempts to clear the harbour channels have failed, with contractors either abandoning the work or declaring it too difficult without specialised machinery. Merchant stressed that the government was determined to avoid wasting more money on incomplete projects.<\/p>
