Antigua and Barbuda has recorded a significant fall in crime, with Cabinet attributing the decline to new leadership and a shift in policing strategies.<\/p>

Cabinet spokesman Maurice Merchant reported that between January and August 2025, a total of 2,163 offences were recorded compared to 2,533 in the same period last year. The figures represent a 14.6% reduction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Responding to questions at the post-Cabinet briefing, Merchant said the improvement was linked to additional manpower, greater police visibility across the country, and more regular reporting to Cabinet<\/strong>, which has increased accountability within the force.<\/p>

\u201cThe police have a higher level of motivation coming from within and also from their superiors,\u201d Merchant explained, noting that new leadership has introduced fresh strategies tailored to changing criminal patterns.<\/p>

While overall crime has fallen, officials remain concerned about increases in aggravated and attempted robberies. Merchant said these areas are being closely monitored and policing tactics will be adjusted to address the threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government commended the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda for its efforts and urged the public to support officers by reporting crimes and providing intelligence.<\/p>
