\u2026<\/strong>\u201cOur Heritage, Our Ethnicity, Our Cultural Diversity\u201d is the theme for the 58th annual Jaycees Queen Show. The annual showcase of pageantry, cultural exchange and awareness has been a landmark event for the JCI Antigua organization and a highlight for Antigua\u2019s Carnival festivities. <\/p>

Though the international competition is some months away,\nJaycees Queen Show held their official launch on Friday, March 8th, 2019-\nfitting with the celebrations for International Woman\u2019s Day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Co-chairs of Jaycees, Janet Simon and Ayanna\nDorsette, \u201cThis year we will revisit the roots of our uniqueness and identify\nWhat makes us different, what makes us unique, and what binds us together as a\npeople- \u201cOur Heritage, Our Ethnicity, Our Cultural Diversity.\u201d \u201cThis theme in\nour view is extremely integral to us as Caribbean people as it highlights\nsimilar characteristics among us.\u201d <\/p>

Sticking with JCI Antigua 2019 theme, \u201cEmbracing Unity to\ncreate Positive Change\u201d, the launch of Jaycees saw both past and present\npageant queens taking the stage together during the ceremony. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Unification and provoking positive change within communities\nare the cornerstone of JCI Antigua\u2019s core mission. Speaking at the launch over\nthe weekend, JCI Antigua President\u2019s Ms. Tammie Gage said, \u201cJCI Antigua\ncontinues to empower young people in Antigua and Barbuda through our various\nprojects and programs such as the Senator Leandra James Cancer Awareness\nCampaign, Youth Empowerment Program, the Environmental Awareness Campaign, the\nBusiness Seminars and the reason we are here today, our most long-standing\nprogram, the annual Jaycees Queen Show. \nA project which started initially as \u201cjust\u201d a show and evolved later\ninvolving delegates from across the region. The Project has aligned with our\nmission and provide developmental opportunities for our members while\nempowering women through pageantry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms. Gage went on to say, \u201cJCI Antigua strives to continue\nmaking a positive impact in our community and the lives of our members.  Hence our theme this year is \u201cEmbracing Unity\nto create Positive Change\u201d.  <\/p>

Minister of Sports, Culture, National Festivals and the Arts\nHon. Daryll Matthew also addressed launch over the weekend. Minister Mathew\npraised the organization for their constant work within communities in Antigua\nand Barbuda and encouraged more organizations to do the same. In his address,\nMinister Mathew said, \u201ceducation takes place in different forums; some in\nclassrooms and some in the classroom of life. It\u2019s amazing that an organization\nas JCI Antigua not only through Jaycees queen show project but through JCI\nexistence has been a classroom of life in Antigua and Barbuda. It is easy to\nlook to the government when things don\u2019t go the way it should go but when\norganizations such as JCI and other organizations step up to the plate and\npartners with the government, it makes things easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minister of Culture ended his address by pledging the\ngovernment\u2019s continued support to the Jaycees Queen Show. <\/p>

Honey Bee Theater, a youth-driven theater company entertained\nthe audience with excerpts from their original play \u201cA long walk\u201d- showcasing\nculture, history, and the performing arts. <\/p>

The 58th Jaycees Queen show is scheduled for July 31st, at\nCarnival City; Antigua Recreation Grounds, starting promptly at 8:00 p.m. The\naim this year, is to Confirm twelve (12) beautiful, cultural, ethical and\ntalented ladies, who will grace the stage in five exciting, stimulating,\ninspiring and thrilling segments. These include Introduction\/cultural wear,\nSwimwear, Performing Talent, Evening Wear, and Interview, four of which are\nadjudicated.<\/p>\n
