CABINET NOTES-<\/strong> The Cabinet received a comprehensive report from the Attorney General on crime <\/a>statistics for the period 1st January to 31st August 2025, with comparative data from 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report was prepared by the Criminal Records Office of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda<\/a>.<\/p>

a.     General Crime Trends<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u2022           A total of 2,163 offences were recorded between January and August 2025, compared to 2,533 offences in the same period of 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022           This represents a net decrease of 370 cases or 14.6%, reflecting an overall decline in crime levels.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

b.     Offences showing decreases:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \u2022           Breaking and Larceny: 600 \u2192 487 (\u2193113)<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

            \u2022           Larceny: 771 \u2192 659 (\u2193112)<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

            \u2022           Malicious Damage: 367 \u2192 288 (\u219379)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \u2022           Unlawful Sexual Intercourse: 16 \u2192 8 (\u21938)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

c.     Offences showing increases:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \u2022           Aggravated Robbery: 27 \u2192 40 (\u219113)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \u2022           Attempted Robbery: 7 \u2192 12 (\u21915)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \u2022           Sacrilege: 17 \u2192 24 (\u21917)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

d.     Robbery (general): declined from 103 \u2192 72 (\u219331).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

e.     Crimes Against Tourists<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \u2022           For the year 2024, a total of 44 incidents were reported against tourists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \u2022           For the period January\u2013August 2025, there have been 23 incidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \u2022           The main offences were breaking, burglary, larceny, and robbery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            This indicates a decline in tourist-related crime, though property crimes remain the <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most common risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

f.      Firearms and Ammunition Arrests<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between January and August 2025:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022           43 individuals arrested for firearm and ammunition offences (36 males, 4 females, 3 juveniles).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \u2022           25 firearms seized, including 2 rifles, 5 modified flare guns, and 2 modified nail guns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \u2022           286 rounds of ammunition recovered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \u2022           16 convictions secured to date for firearms and ammunition offences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Cabinet:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1.         Commended the Attorney General, the Police Commissioner and the Police Force for their effective enforcement measures, which have resulted in a measurable decline in overall crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.         Noted with concern the slight increase in aggravated and attempted robberies, and directed that law enforcement strategies continue to focus on violent crime reduction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Welcomed the reduction in crimes against tourists, recognizing the importance of maintaining Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s<\/a> reputation as a safe and secure destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4.         Praised the firearm seizures and convictions, underscoring the Government\u2019s commitment to removing illegal weapons from circulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5.         Reaffirmed its continued support for the Royal Police Force through resources, training, and legislation, to ensure public safety and national security.<\/p>\n
