Antigua and Barbuda,<\/a> a twin-island paradise nestled in the heart of the Caribbean, has long been celebrated for its natural beauty, vibrant culture, and peaceful way of life.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Tourists continue to flock to our shores, drawn by the warmth of our people and the serenity of our landscapes. Yet beneath this tranquil surface, a quiet storm has been brewing.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In recent years, our nation has witnessed a troubling rise in crime, drug use, and acts of violence \u2014 including break-ins and even murder. These are not just statistics; they are signs of a deeper societal shift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside these concerns, we are seeing an increase in mental illness across demographics, and a growing wave of deviant behaviours that threaten the moral and social fabric of our communities.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

We are still a peaceful country \u2014 but we are at a crossroads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Complication: A Nation at Risk<\/strong><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The trajectory we are on is not one we wish to continue.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

While civil society, government agencies, and church groups have made commendable efforts to address these issues, the challenges persist. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The truth is, more must be done. And sometimes, what is needed is not just another program or policy, but a moment of collective spiritual reckoning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That moment has come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On\u00a0September 11<\/strong>, Antigua and Barbuda <\/a>will observe a\u00a0National Day of Prayer<\/strong>. This date, though it shares a calendar with the tragic events in the United States, is not connected to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, it is a uniquely Antiguan and Barbudan call to pause, reflect, and pray \u2014 for ourselves, our families, our communities, and our country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is not just another event. It is too big an opportunity to miss<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Question: Why Should We Get Involved?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why should anyone \u2014 young or old, religious or not \u2014 get involved in the National Day of Prayer?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because we have much to pray about<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have much to pray about for our families \u2014 for healing, for unity, for protection. We have much to pray about for our communities \u2014 for peace, for compassion, for restoration. We have much to pray about for our country \u2014 for wisdom, for justice, for a renewed sense of purpose and direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also have much to pray about for our leaders. Leadership is never easy, and in times of crisis, it becomes even more complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our leaders need divine wisdom and understanding to guide a people as diverse, passionate, and sometimes difficult as we know ourselves to be. Scripture reminds us in\u00a01 Timothy 2:1-2<\/strong>\u00a0to pray for \u201call those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Answer: Prayer Makes a Difference<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout history \u2014 and throughout Scripture \u2014 we see the power of prayer to transform nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In\u00a02 Chronicles 20<\/strong>, King Jehoshaphat faced a vast army threatening Judah. Overwhelmed, he called the nation to fast and pray. The people gathered, and God responded with a miraculous victory. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The battle was won not by swords, but by surrender and supplication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Jonah 3<\/strong>, the city of Nineveh was on the brink of destruction due to its wickedness. But when the people heard the warning, they believed God, declared a fast, and prayed earnestly. From the king to the commoner, they turned from their ways \u2014 and God spared the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These are not just ancient stories. They are timeless truths. When a nation prays, things change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prayer is not a passive act. It is a powerful force that aligns our hearts with God\u2019s will, opens doors for healing and reconciliation, and invites divine intervention where human effort falls short. When we have done all we can, and can do no more, God makes up the difference<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has promised: \u201cCall to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.\u201d<\/em> \u2014 Jeremiah 33:3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Call to Action: Lift Up a Prayer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, what can you do on September 11?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You don\u2019t need to attend a formal service or stand in a crowd. You can pray silently. You can pray with your family. You can pray while driving, walking, working, or resting. Whether it\u2019s a one-minute prayer or an hour of reflection, lift up a prayer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pray for peace. Pray for healing. Pray for wisdom. Pray for change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This National Day of Prayer is not just a symbolic gesture. It is a spiritual strategy. It is a moment for every citizen \u2014 regardless of age, background, or belief \u2014 to participate in something greater than themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because prayer makes a difference<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let us not miss this opportunity. Let us come together, in unity and humility, to seek divine guidance for our nation. Let us believe that Antigua and Barbuda can be restored, renewed, and revived \u2014 not just by policy, but by prayer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
